Guest post at The Spectator
Here's a link to a guest post I was kindly invited to write by The Spectator's book blog editor David Blackburn, on the publishing history of The Birth Machine and the way it illustrates that it's not just literary talent that can make or break books and writers.
That's a very good article and it's good to see the Spectator taking such a thing. May it bring lots of sales of Birth Machine in its wake. And a very Merry Christmas to you and yours and really happy 2011. Thanks for all the posts here and on Tart of Fiction.
Glad you think so, Adele. Yes, I also think it's great that the Spectator were not only prepared to publish it but invited me to write about that specifically.
A very Merry Christmas to you too and all your clan, and a great 2011 - and thanks for being such a staunch reader of the blog!
Stories. 'Quite swept me off my feet... Nothing would have induced me to interrupt Balancing on the Edge of the World by Elizabeth Baines until I'd read them all' - Dovegreyreader
The Birth Machine. A short novel. New Edition, November 2010. 'A disturbing and thought-provoking meditation on power, control and the uncertain language of logic.' - Carys Bray.

Really encouraging that you are being invited to speak out now, Elizabeth - long may it continue.
Merry Christmas!
Thank you, Rachel, and season's greetings to you too, and thanks for reading the blog this past year!!
